Beamclub

The Beamclub, a weekly programme of films, is part of the Studium Generale lecture series
at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (http://www NULL.gerritrietveldacademie NULL.nl). In the 2003–2004 school year, a movie was shown every Wednesday afternoon in Public Space with a Roof (http://www NULL.pswar NULL.org), a gallery situated in the former Film Academy (http://ot301 NULL.nl). I made a poster for each screening, basing my designs on that of ‘Cities and Eyes’,
but now incorporating film stills and video icons such as ‘play’ and ‘pause’. This resulted in
some unexpected combinations: in the poster I made for Chris Marker’s ‘Sans Soleil’, for example, the red dot refers simultaneously to the ‘record’ button and to the flag of Japan,
where the film is predominantly set.
